Volunteering
Volunteering Process
Thank you for considering volunteering at Aldersbrook. We believe that volunteers provide a valuable contribution and enrich our school.
At Aldersbrook Primary we aim to:
- Encourage the wider community to engage with the school
- Ensure that volunteers support the school’s vision and values
- Provide volunteers with clear expectations and guidelines
- Set a clear, fair process for recruiting and managing volunteers
Our volunteering process has been developed in line with the statutory safeguarding guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE) from the Department for Education (DfE).
At Aldersbrook, volunteers may:
- Hear children read
- Accompany school visits
- Work with individual children
- Work with small groups of children
- Support specific curriculum areas, such as computing or art
- Support staff with administration tasks such as preparing resources or photocopying.
This isn’t an exhaustive list!
All volunteers are required to undergo a DBS check, which can be quite time-consuming, especially with the current delays which are commonplace. These delays often result in the process taking around 3-4 weeks before the DBS is returned to us.
Because of this, we normally ask that volunteers are able to commit to a minimum of half a day for a term.
If you would like to volunteer, please follow these steps.
Step 1.
Check if you can commit to at least half a day for a term.
Complete this form.
Read the 'Volunteer Induction Policy' found on this page.
Step 2.
Once the form is processed, the applicant will be contacted to organise a time to come in and begin the DBS check with our Office Manager.
Step 3.
When the DBS is returned, and there are no concerns, an induction will be organised where you will receive training including Safeguarding, our Code of Conduct and Prevent. Then you can start your placement!
