3rd Daily Update from APS in China

Please see below our latest update from the gang in the middle kingdom.

Hi all,

This morning, we received a warm welcome at Guangyangwan Shanhu Primary School and were ushered into their amazing auditorium. We were all entertained by the talented school orchestra, before taking in some fantastic performances of traditional tales by the school children from various grades. The children made paper with their buddies, which they designed with leaves and petals; this was followed up with a chance to use their new sports facilities. Both our and the school children engaged in athletics, table tennis and basketball together, including a Guangyangwan versus Aldersbrook match; a lunch time meal was well earned!

We had the pleasure of collecting the eight Chinese children who will visit Aldersbrook in July in the afternoon. Our children continued to cement their new bonds on our journey to the Chongqing Science and Technology Museum together. The museum boasts hundreds of interactive exhibitions, both large and small, proving us with insight into the how far Chongqing has advanced in recent times. Chongqing has over 18,000 bridges, which led us into a group challenge. Staff and children worked together to build a variety of bridges for different terrains, including suspension and arch bridges. This gave the children opportunities to use different resources such as wood, plastic and metal. They followed this up by talking about their designs and presenting them to each other.

We rounded off our day with a quick stop at Shanhu Changjianghui Primary School for some entertainment before dinner. We enjoyed live music, poetry and songs from many of the school's children, before we all received a lesson in creating Chinese auspicious knots. This was followed by a calming walk along the Chongqing rivers. The children were amazed by the lights and architecture on show and were treated like celebrities by the public.
